As per HMRC guidelines, any treatments that are not for the health benefit of a patient or are used for purely cosmetic reasons are subject to a payment of VAT. However, treatments that are solely for the health benefit of a patient are exempt from VAT.

Many Aesthetics Treatments, such as Botulinum Toxin (i.e. Botox), can be used for cosmetic or medical purposes.

For example, Botulinum Toxin (Botox) can be used in the treatment of migraines, headaches and atypical facial pain. It can also be used for the treatment of depression and poor self-esteem. There are many medical reasons, which may be on-going and long-term, for which people seek advice from practitioners.

All treatments at The IGP are administered by Qualified Medical Practitioners and include a full medical consultation. Here at The IGP, it is understood that while there may be secondary cosmetic benefits to some treatments, their primary reason for advising a course of treatment will be for medical reasons.

During your consultation you will be asked to complete a consent form clarifying the purpose of your required treatment as either Medical or Cosmetic. Please note, if the purpose of your treatment is solely cosmetic, the fee charged will be subject to the addition of VAT at the current rate.

Consent forms and patient notes are strictly private and confidential and only you and your medical practitioner will ever have direct access to it.

* Botox is a prescription only medicine (POM) and the promotion/advertising of these or any similar products or POMs is illegal. The appropriate management for a condition in an individual patient is for the prescriber and patient jointly to consider. Such Treatments should be administered/prescribed by trained medical professionals and only used if appropriate & when other treatment options have been discussed.
